Abdul Shakur

I'm aged 26. Having started from humble beginnings surrounded by debt I wanted to break down barriers for Muslim entrepreneurs and young people. 10 years ago when entrepreneurship wasn't popular I had to go through homelessness and depression. I say this because I can relate to a lot of the personal challenges we face in business. 10 years later I run a social media and community management agency building online communities to engage, convert and retain clients. I say clients because I can only talk from a service provider business. Having built a 6-figure marketing agency and previously in recruitment, I know what it takes to go from freelancer to 5 employees. Not everything has been a success. I've failed numerous times and even gone through bad business partnerships. If you're ambitious I can probably save you a lot of time by sharing what went wrong rather than everything that's right. I've mentored 100's both voluntary and paid and you can find testimonials on numerous sites and social media profiles. Here are areas which I can be most useful in a little more detail: - Starting up your business - Marketing & Building Communities for B2B & Tech Startups - Business Strategy helping you open up revenue streams - Sales & Partnerships to help you grow your business to 6-figures - Personal branding that's profitable i.e consultancy or expert business. - Property investments for those professionals looking to do more with their money

I have trained many healthcare and non healthcare professionals for example taught doctors about safer prescribing. I have always thoroughly enjoyed the challenges of educator roles as they require me to develop a wide skill set such as sound communication skills; as I teach a diverse group of people from doctors to nurses to pharmacists trainees. I am passionate about learning and teaching. This allows the development of myself and others as I believe this achieves better outcomes. Last year, I attended a ‘coaching’ course and a ‘helping others learn’ workshop to improve on my ability to elicit motivation, metacognition and empowerment of others. This had a profound impact as it enabled me to help others achieve their goals. I would love the opportunity to contribute to empower Muslim brothers and sisters.

I'm an engineer first, entrepreneur second. Currently co-founder/CTO of 24/7 fitness livestream startup Krew (https://krew.live) backed by Europe's top accelerator Entrepreneur First. Before joining EF, I had just finished my PhD in distributed networks and edge computing, and before that I have a lot of experience as a researcher in computer vision and machine learning at Oxford. I have a bunch of publications in those areas as well as security, privacy, and cloud computing, including a patent in load balancing from my time at Bell Labs. Before all this, I did my masters in electronic and systems engineering and minored in business. My prior business experience was in the education sector running a tutor services company, following my experience as a school teacher (primary & secondary), which is what basically funded half my PhD. Besides tech, entrepreneurship, education, I'm also passionate about languages. I'm a volunteer global ambassador for Duolingo and host (now online) events. I'm a German national, originally from Egypt, and also speak German, Arabic, Italian, trying to learn Mandarin. I have a cat called Jinn. Hope that tells you a little about who I am!

I have a background in Electronic Engineering, and have been in the workforce for 6 years in various IT/technology roles in the Energy sector, including strategy. I am now in the renewables industry, working on digitalisation & value generation through our various renewable assets (generation, transmission, storage). I can therefore talk extensively on technology & implementing it in the corporate world for specific business problems. I am extremely passionate about diversity & inclusion, specifically inspiring more girls & women into STEM careers both through charity work & in the workplace. As a result of my charity work, where I headed the EMEA region of a global non profit (robogals.org), I can advise on the sector in the U.K. I also managed a virtual team, so can advise on this as well. My extensive work on STEM outreach, and greater D&I practices in the workplace, I hopefully can help anyone that’s not a D&I professional navigate what can be a difficult world. Because of a variety of projects I undertake in my spare time, I am also able to help with networking, how to and connecting with individuals if needed.

I am an architect in training, with an interest in people-led and research-led design work and experience of working in interdisciplinary studios. I have worked on comprehensive hands-on community and stakeholder engagement, strategic thinking and urban design, design-led architecture and landscape project. I have recently made a move to working in Local Government to work as part of the in-house architecture team in London Borough of Enfield where I work across departments such as council-led development, planning, urban planning and development management. My role is quite flexible with a board focus on building capacity and promoting good design internally. My passion is working with communities to co-design and develop proposals and narratives with a focus on public and communal spaces, robust high streets and good healthy streets to sustain strong communities and placemaking. I also am involved with Women in Architecture and run a not-for-profit called OurGirls Mentoring. I started OurGirls in 2016 for marginalised students with a focus on working with Year 10-13 BME girls across London.
